2017/06/08
On 31 May, 2017,the New Zealand China Trade Association (NZCTA) 2017 China Business Awards were held in Auckland. China's Ambassador to New Zealand, Wang Lutong, was invited to attend the ceremony and delivered a speech.
Ambassador Wang Lutong fully affirmed the active role played by the NZCTA in the promotion of China-New Zealand economic and trade cooperation, and expressed his gratitude towards New Zealand's wider community for its contribution to the friendly relationship between the two countries. Ambassador Wang noted that 2017 is the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and New Zealand, and although 45 years is not a long period in the history of human civilization, it is of great significance to China and New Zealand. The two countries have achieved fruitful cooperative results over the years and Ambassador Wang hoped that the pace of cooperation would never stop. New Zealand is the first developed country to initiate the FTA upgrading negotiations with China and to conclude a memorandum of understanding with China on cooperation under the 'One Belt, One Road' initiative. The 'Belt and Road' initiative will bring development opportunities for the world by enhancing connectivity in policy, infrastructure, trade, financial and people-to-people relationships between countries. In the future, China and New Zealand will join in efforts to promote 'Belt and Road' construction. At present, China is deepening the reform of its economic structure, transforming it into a consumption- and innovation- driven economy. China and New Zealand will continue to work together to further advance exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, Paula Bennett, delivered a speech on behalf of the New Zealand Government. Former Prime Minister, Sir John Key; Trade Minister, Todd McClay; New Zealand China Council Chairman, Sir Don McKinnon; former ambassador to China, Carl Worker; New Zealand China Trade Association Chairman, Martin Thomson; Consul General in Auckland, Xu Erwen; and the Chinese Embassy's Economic and Commercial Counsellor, Zhang Fan, attended the awards ceremony, along with approximately 600 representatives from the New Zealand and Chinese business community.
