Ambassador Wang Lutong Meets with Vice-Chancellor of Massey University

On April 21, Ambassador Wang Lutong met with the new Vice-Chancellor of Massey University, Professor Jan Thomas. The two sides exchanged views on further cooperation between Massey University and the Chinese higher education sector in various fields.

First of all, Ambassador Wang Lutong congratulated Professor Thomas on her appointment. Ambassador Wang noted that Massey University, being a New Zealand university that has broad contacts with China, has made positive contributions to cooperation and exchanges between China and New Zealand in the education field. The cooperative initiatives between Massey University and Chinese higher education institutes, including exchanges and cooperation with China's People's Liberation Army Arts Academy, the "Three Brothers" project and the Joint Research Centre in Applied Linguistics established with the Beijing Language and Culture University, all demonstrated good effective examples of cooperation. Ambassador Wang hoped that Massey University and China could further expand this cooperative scope to promote the in-depth development of bilateral cooperation in the education field.

Professor Thomas briefed Ambassador Wang on her work plan since assuming the role of Vice-Chancellor, which stressed making Massey University an integral part of New Zealand's economic and social development, contributing to the enhancement of New Zealand's competitiveness in the world. Professor Thomas noted that Massey University has enjoyed a good cooperative foundation with China, and the results achieved in all aspects of pragmatic cooperation have been gratifying. Massey University cherishes the friendship with Chinese universities and is dedicated to further strengthening ties with China to explore new cooperation modes. Professor Thomas noted that she planned to visit China in the near future.
