Ambassador Wang Lutong attends Wellington's 'Chinese New Year Gala'

On the evening of February 13, the 'Chinese New Year Gala' co-sponsored by the Wellington City Council and Asia New Zealand Foundation was held at the TSB Stadium in downtown Wellington. China's Ambassador to New Zealand Wang Lutong and his wife, Wellington Major Celia Wade-Brown and her husband, New Zealand National Party MP Alastair Scott, Wellington City councilor David Lee, Deputy Director of Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio-Film-Television, Press and Publication Li Yunli and about 500 people watched the performance together.

The PRC Ministry of Culture had sent a Little Egret Troupe from Xiamen to stage the 'Chinese New Year Gala' in collaboration with New Zealand artists. With a theme of 'East meets West' and an excellent program, which included traditional Maori dance performances and elegant Chinese music composed over a thousand years ago, the Gala demonstrated the charm of Eastern and Western art, and the sparks created by the collision of the two cultures.

At the Gala, Xiamen Troupe performed a range of classical Chinese music and dance. The unique Chinese flavor, strong visual impact and colorful ethnic culture brought by the show impressed the audience, winning rounds of applause. New Zealand artists presented a 'New Year Fashion Show' and contemporary dance performance named 'FLying time'. The contemporary dance 'Monkey Business' choreographed and performed by Xiamen Troupe and New Zealand dancers was humorous, vibrant and well received by the audience. The dance demonstrated the charm of art, which is borderless and able to blend into different cultures.

After the performance, Ambassador Wang and his wife, Mayor Wade-Brown and other guests joined the artists on the stage to congratulate them on their successful performance and posed for group pictures.
