Why the 18th CPC National Congress attracts global attention
2012/11/01

As the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) set to be held on Nov. 8 is around the corner, more and more attention is being drawn to China. Why is the 18th National Congress of the CPC drawing such huge attention from the world?

First, attention to the 18th National Congress of the CPC is attention to the strength of China. China's relation with the world and its role in the world are undergoing grand changes. Since 2010, China has become the world’s second largest economy and its active role has been more prominent. In addition to economic power, China's political, cultural and moral powers also have the same far-reaching impact on the world.

Second, attention to the 18th National Congress of the CPC is attention to the voice of China. Every CPC national congress will convey new voices and ideas, most of which relate to the internal affairs but are of great benefit to other countries in dealing with China. What ideas will the 18th CPC National Congress give on summarizing the past and solving the current problems? Whether will it put forward some guidance ideas on issues such as the Diaoyu Islands and Huangyan Island issues? All of these questions have attracted attention of foreign media.

Third, attention to the 18th National Congress of the CPC is attention to the road of China. There is no any development model and road fit for every country. China is experiencing a road which had never been walked through by both ancient Chinese and foreigners - the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Currently, the development model and road of China have become prominent in the world. According to plan, China will comprehensively establish a moderately prosperous society by 2020 so the development in the next 10 years will be especially critical. The 18th CPC National Congress will give an answer to how to realize the goal and continue the socialist road.

Fourth, attention to the 18th National Congress of the CPC is attention to the fate of China. The Asia-Pacific region will remain the vigor and vitality for a long time. It is an inevitable option for great powers to comply with the rise of Asia and integrate into the "Asian Century." Australia has recently released a new blueprint of its Asian policy and the United States had long returned to the Asia-Pacific region. It is inevitable for any country, which hopes to take advantage of the development of Asia-Pacific to achieve its interests in the region, to deal with China and pay attention to the 18th CPC National Congress, a meeting that will comprehensively analyze the contemporary world and have influence on the general development trend of China.

There are both compliments and criticisms on the 18th National Congress of the CPC. There are those who stirred up old topics, saying that the rise of China will challenge the international order; China does not comply with the rules of international trade and it is the manipulator of the yuan exchange rate; there are even people who "expect" that a major accident would occur in China. China has become the focus of the world's talks and it has adapted to the "attentions" and "criticisms" from outside. It should make an explanation to the world and more importantly, it must set a good example.

The history since the Reform and Opening up has proven that the convening of every party congress means a new progress of China. China’s efforts made in every five and 10 years will promote China's status in the world, so will the 18th National Congress of the CPC.
