Yang Jiechi Expounds China's Stance the Current Korean Peninsula Situation

On April 19, 2017, State Councilor Yang Jiechi expounded China’s stance on the current Korean Peninsula situation when meeting the press after co-chairing the 7th round of China-EU high-level strategic dialogue with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.

Yang Jiechi noted that the current Korean Peninsula situation is tense and complicated, which catches China’s high attention. The Chinese side reaffirmed that we firmly adhere to realizing the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, safeguarding the peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula, and stand firm in addressing the issue through dialogues and consultations. China opposes any rhetoric or actions that could aggravate confrontation and tension, and advocates that all relevant parties should make earnest efforts to ease the situation in a bid to bring relevant issues back to the correct track of settlement through dialogues and negotiations. As a close neighbor to the Korean Peninsula, China will continuously carry out the UN Security Council resolutions in a comprehensive and strict manner, facilitate peace talks, and play its due role in the process of peace, stability and denuclearization in the Korean Peninsula.

Federica Mogherini expressed that the EU stands ready to make its own contributions to advancing the restart of dialogues and the realization of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
