Xi Jinping Sends Message of Condolences to President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines over Typhoon Nock-ten that Hits the Philippines

On January 1, 2017, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences to President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines over typhoon Nock-ten that hit the Philippines.

Xi Jinping said in the message of condolences that the Philippines has been hit by typhoon Nock-ten, which caused heavy casualties and property damage. On behalf of the Chinese government and people as well as in my own name, I would like to express sincere sympathy to you and through you to the people in the typhoon-hit area.

Xi Jinping noted that China and the Philippines are friendly neighbors. China is deeply concerned about the Philippine people who have been hit and become homeless in the disaster and is willing to provide emergency assistance to the typhoon-hit area. I believe that, under the strong leadership of Mr. President and the Philippine government, the Philippine people will overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes.
